The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Leadership in Volunteer Police Service Programs Award celebrates law-enforcement volunteer initiatives, including auxiliary and reserve police programs, that demonstrate innovative, effective practices for strengthening community safety, supporting sworn officers and enhancing service delivery. Established in 2003, the award showcases “best practice” models that agencies around the world can replicate to better address public-safety challenges through the power of volunteer service.
Recent recipients include the Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary Program, honored in 2025 for its 65-year legacy of volunteer service with more than 500 members contributing over 121,000 hours and driving community engagement and crime prevention, and the Surprise Police Department Citizens Patrol Program, the 2024 winner recognized for its nearly 23,000 volunteer hours and significant operational impact. Other past winners include the Dallas Police Reserve Unit (2022) for its high-impact reserve contributions and the Eden Prairie Police Department Reserve Unit (2021) for sustained volunteer support and community involvement — all underscoring the vital role that reserve and auxiliary officers play in modern policing.
