A former Belleville attorney, Jason R. Caraway, has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison after admitting to embezzling more than $1 million from his clients—including two children of a fallen police officer. Caraway, once a partner at a Belleville personal-injury firm, misused client settlement funds, issued unauthorized checks to himself, falsified court documents, and failed to pay medical liens.
Prosecutors noted the significant breach of trust, especially given that he withheld more than $128,000 meant for the dependents of Auxiliary Officer Ricardo Davis, of The Washington Park Police Department, who died in 2018 in the line of duty while chasing a suspect.
