Mike Cazes, former Sheriff of West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, passed away at age 69, leaving behind a legacy of more than four decades of service that began as a humble reserve deputy in 1979. Over the years he worked as a road deputy, city marshal, chief criminal deputy and ultimately served 20 years as sheriff — transforming the department’s facilities, expanding programs, and earning statewide respect as a former president of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association. Colleagues remember him as a compassionate leader whose “word was golden,” always putting community safety and integrity first.
