The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse took advantage of Equifest at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka to recruit new volunteers interested in joining its ranks. The Mounted Posse, a volunteer equine-based support unit of the Sheriff’s Office made up of riders with their own horses, is a primary unit in search-and-rescue operations in the area, and in their downtime, participates in parades, community events and search-and-rescue training. This offers unit members the opportunity to serve the public while pursuing their passion for horses. Organizers say Equifest draws equine enthusiasts from across Kansas, making it an ideal setting to attract volunteers eager to support law enforcement and community engagement.
