New housing safety unit special constables set to patrol community housing in Thunder Bay, Canada.

A new pilot initiative launched by the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) in partnership with the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) places four specially trained special constables in three of the board’s highest-volume housing buildings. Designed to blend community-engagement and enforcement, the unit will carry out patrols, tenant outreach and support referrals in an effort to enhance safety, reduce emergency calls and build stronger relationships within the city’s social housing communities.
