The Volunteer Law Enforcement Officer Alliance (VLEOA) has embarked on a project with Dr. Iain Britton to bring training through virtual seminars to our membership.

These training events are a membership benefit and available exclusively to active members of the VLEOA. For those who would like to join, please see our membership page.

• Date & Time

The first seminar in the series will focus on the ongoing challenge of Recruiting Volunteer Reserves and Auxiliaries, and will be held on Thursday May 22, 2025, at 1pm EST (10am PDT and MST and 6pm BST/UK). The timing is such to be able to include as many of our international members as possible. We plan to rotate the timing of future Seminars to accommodate different time zones.

• Topics to be covered

• The big recruitment challenges (lowering numbers, ageing demographics, short volunteer careers, wider recruitment challenges in law enforcement).

• Understanding who currently applies, and why.

• How to identify the desired target recruitment profile.

• Designing recruitment campaigns to attract a particular recruitment profile.

• Recruitment, gender, and diversity.

• Building in retention and longevity of volunteer careers through intelligent recruiting.

• Recruiting former paid service personnel.

• Presenters

Presenters from agencies in several countries (USA, UK, Canada, Estonia) will discuss their challenges and approaches to recruitment. Academic research on volunteer recruitment will also be shared.

  This event is available exclusively to active members of the VLEOA.
