Michael Hall, a 28 year veteran Reserve Deputy and former Sheriff with the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office Missouri, prevented a dangerous situation from escalating during an officer-involved shooting in Powell.
According to the agency’s report, on November 16, 2025, Deputy Hall discovered a stolen vehicle parked at his own residence with an unknown subject walking away. Deputy Hall requested an on-duty deputy to respond when it was discovered the vehicle was stolen, and went to check on his neighbors, where the subject was identified as Dylan Martinez and some of his criminal history was revealed. When the subject returned, Deputy Hall gave warnings but Martinez pulled a gun and opened fire striking Hall. Deputy Hall returned fire, struck Martinez, and was able to take him into custody before performing first aid for his own and Martinez's injuries until additional deputies and EMS arrived.
Hall has since been released from the hospital. The arrest concluded a tense encounter and demonstrated the essential role reserve deputies play — often quietly — in keeping their communities safe.
