The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office is reviving its volunteer posse program for the first time in more than 30 years — inviting community members to partner with deputies in supporting public safety and emergency efforts across Thomas County. Volunteers in the posse will assist with traffic control at events, searches for missing people, storm response and support at large community gatherings, helping fill staffing gaps at a time when law-enforcement agencies nationwide are experiencing personnel shortages. Participants must be at least 18, pass a background check and complete training before serving, and the Sheriff’s Office says the program not only enhances response capacity but also strengthens trust and engagement between residents and law enforcement.
