Last week, a Colorado Ranger demonstrated the everyday commitment that defines reserve and volunteer law enforcement service. While traveling home, the Ranger encountered an active incident on I-10 in Goodyear and immediately assisted the ADOT Incident Response Unit during efforts to safely corral and remove a loose dog from the freeway.
Through a coordinated response, traffic hazards were reduced while prioritizing the safety of both motorists and the animal. The situation was resolved without incident, underscoring how situational awareness, calm decision-making, and a willingness to step in—even while off duty—can make a meaningful difference.
Moments like this highlight the vital role reserve and auxiliary officers play in public safety. Whether officially assigned or simply in the right place at the right time, their training and dedication help protect lives, maintain order, and support partner agencies when it matters most.
