Parma’s Auxiliary Police stepped up alongside the city’s public-safety agencies to help make the 2026 Parma Safety Fair a successful community event, putting volunteer law enforcement front and center in an afternoon dedicated to safety, education, and community connection. Held August 15 at the Parma Justice Center, the annual Safety Fair brought residents together with local first responders and public-safety organizations.

For Parma’s Auxiliary Police, events like the Safety Fair are an important part of the unit’s mission. The Parma Auxiliary Police Unit is a volunteer organization that supports the Parma Police Department, providing assistance with traffic control, security at local events, and other public-safety assignments. In 2024 alone, the unit's volunteers contributed 4,366 hours of service to the department. The city's own records recognize the significant role of its auxiliary officers, with 17 auxiliary/special police officers serving alongside 113 regular police officers as of 2026.

The Safety Fair is a particularly fitting setting for Parma's Auxiliary Officers because their role extends beyond traditional enforcement. By helping host and support community events, auxiliary officers have an opportunity to interact directly with residents, build relationships, answer questions, and demonstrate that volunteer law enforcement is about community service as much as public safety.

Parma's Auxiliary Police have been part of the city's public-safety tradition for decades, the city formally recognized the unit's 75th anniversary in 2025. Their continued participation in events such as the Safety Fair demonstrates the enduring value of citizens willing to volunteer their time, training, and experience to support their community.

From traffic control and event security to community outreach and safety education, Parma's Auxiliary Police continue to show that volunteer officers aren't simply there when extra help is needed, they are an important part of the community they serve.
