Sheriff Jesse Slaughter Proposes Reserve Deputy SRO Program for Schools in Cascade County

During the Oct. 29 work session of the Great Falls Public Schools board, Sheriff Slaughter unveiled his plan to introduce a paid reserve deputy program to bolster school safety across the district. The initiative comes after state law changes enabled compensation for reserve deputies—a move Slaughter says could “be a huge force-multiplier in public safety.”

He plans to recruit experienced retired law-enforcement officers with pay ranging from $20 to $27 per hour, and begin the pilot in cooperation with the Great Falls Police Department and the school district.
