Special Constables First on Scene After Groundwell Industrial Estate Explosion

When a violent explosion ripped through Swindon’s Groundwell Industrial Estate last September, it was Special Constable Calvin Caunter and his partner, who was serving only her second shift as a Special Constable, to be the first to report the explosion and arrive on the scene. The volunteer officers were positioned just outside the industrial estate when the blast occurred and immediately responded to the unfolding emergency, becoming the first law enforcement personnel on scene. Faced with chaos, uncertainty, and a rapidly developing incident, the pair quickly transitioned from routine patrol duties to emergency response, helping secure the area and support the wider public safety effort. Their actions serve as a powerful reminder that Special Constables are often called upon to handle the same critical incidents as their full-time counterparts, demonstrating professionalism, courage, and commitment when their communities need them most.
