Three Decades in Auxiliary Policing Shape VLEOA Advisory Board Member Danny Walker's Public Safety Work.

Danny Walker's 30-year career as an auxiliary police officer is providing a unique perspective on the design of today's public safety facilities, and his commitment to volunteer law enforcement continues through his service on the VLEOA Board of Advisors.

A Principal in Clark Nexsen's Public Safety practice, Walker spent nearly three decades with the Portsmouth Auxiliary Police Unit, serving in a wide range of roles including uniformed patrol officer, Special Victims Unit detective, homicide detective, community policing officer, special-event supervisor, field-training supervisor, and cold-case investigator before retiring as a lieutenant. That extensive operational experience now directly informs his work designing police, sheriff's and fire facilities, giving him firsthand knowledge of how public safety personnel actually use the spaces being designed for them. Walker's connection to volunteer law enforcement extends beyond his own career, he has served as a VLEOA Advisory Board member, helping advance awareness and support for volunteer law enforcement officers.

His story represents an especially powerful example of the long-term value of volunteer policing, an auxiliary officer who not only accumulated decades of operational experience, but has carried that knowledge into a professional career serving the broader public safety community. His continued involvement with VLEOA further demonstrates that the impact of volunteer law enforcement can extend well beyond the hours spent in uniform, influencing leadership, professional expertise, public safety design, and the future of volunteer policing itself.
