In a decisive response to the growing tide of extremism, more than 130 law enforcement leaders from across Europe and North America have united to launch a groundbreaking international effort aimed at safeguarding democratic policing and protecting vulnerable communities. Signed in Berlin, the “Not on Our Watch — The Democratic Policing Initiative” establishes a five-year framework focused on intelligence-sharing, early threat detection and coordinated global response to rising antisemitism, targeted violence and political polarization.
Notably, the initiative includes strong leadership from the Volunteer Law Enforcement Officer Alliance (VLEOA), with our president, Ben Haiman serving as vice-chair of the international delegation, alongside active participation from both VLEOA Vice presidents, Harold Wax and Adam Dobrin, and our treasurer, Marc Spigel. Their involvement underscores VLEOA’s growing influence on the global stage and reinforces the critical role of collaborative, ethical policing in countering emerging threats. Leaders emphasized that this effort is not symbolic, but a necessary step to prevent the erosion of democratic institutions in an increasingly volatile security environment.
