Fallen Reserve Deputy Heather Avery Remembered for Service and Sacrifice

Tributes are pouring in for Reserve Deputy Heather Avery, a dedicated volunteer law enforcement officer whose life was tragically cut short while assisting with traffic control in Texas. Avery, a member of the Jefferson County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, was killed when her vehicle — with emergency lights activated — was struck from behind by a commercial truck on Interstate 10.  Known as a mentor, firearms expert, and committed public servant, Avery exemplified the mission of volunteer law enforcement, giving her time and expertise to support public safety.  Her passing has left a profound impact on both her agency and the wider community, serving as a solemn reminder that reserve and volunteer officers face the same risks while standing alongside full-time personnel in service to others.
