“Great Falls, Montana to Pilot Reserve Deputy in Schools — New Boost for SRO Program”

The board of Great Falls Public Schools (GFPS) has unanimously approved a concept to integrate a reserve deputy from the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) into its existing school-resource-officer (SRO) program — a move designed to boost school safety and support already stretched resources. Under the proposal, the reserve deputy would be funded by CCSO but operate under the oversight of the city police SRO supervisor, following the same hiring, training, and oversight as existing officers. The plan still requires formal inter-local agreements between the school district, county sheriff’s office and city police department before it can be implemented.
