After more than 18 years of dedicated volunteer service as a Reserve Deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Ben Moore has been selected to become the first Town Marshal for Fairland, Indiana, marking a historic milestone for both his career and the community he has long served. Moore has spent nearly two decades protecting residents as a Reserve Deputy while following Fairland's plans to establish its own police department. Now, he has been entrusted with building that department from the ground up.
Following a competitive selection process, Moore was appointed to create and lead the new agency, where his vision extends beyond traditional law enforcement to creating a department built on accessibility, personal service, and strong community relationships. Although he brings nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience, he will complete Indiana's state law enforcement certification before the department becomes operational.
Moore's journey from Reserve Deputy to Town Marshal is a powerful example of how volunteer law enforcement develops experienced leaders who are prepared to take on some of the profession's greatest responsibilities. His appointment underscores the lasting impact reserve deputies have on their agencies and communities, proving that volunteer service can be the foundation for exceptional leadership in public safety.
