A routine lunch break during a law enforcement instructor certification course turned into a life-or-death emergency when Reserve Deputy Kim of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Reserves sprang into action to save a fellow officer who was choking. While attending training out of state on behalf of the reserve unit, Deputy Kim quickly recognized the emergency and successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver, clearing the obstruction and preventing a potential tragedy. In recognition of his decisive actions, professionalism, and commitment to public safety, Deputy Kim was presented with the Lifesaving Award at the annual Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserve Picnic. The incident serves as a powerful reminder that the training and dedication of reserve deputies can make a life-saving difference both on and off duty.
