When Monroe County Sheriff's Office Lt. Nancy Alvarez received the Florida Sheriffs Association Lifetime Achievement Award, it marked the culmination of a remarkable law enforcement career that began with volunteer service as a Reserve Deputy. Like many respected leaders in policing, Alvarez first chose to serve her community by volunteering her time before embarking on a distinguished full-time career.
