Volunteer Service Launched an Award-Winning Career

When Monroe County Sheriff's Office Lt. Nancy Alvarez received the Florida Sheriffs Association Lifetime Achievement Award, it marked the culmination of a remarkable law enforcement career that began with volunteer service as a Reserve Deputy. Like many respected leaders in policing, Alvarez first chose to serve her community by volunteering her time before embarking on a distinguished full-time career. From those early days as a Reserve Deputy, she went on to dedicate more than 40 years to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, rising through the ranks while becoming one of the agency's most respected leaders and mentors. Her journey from Reserve Deputy to recipient of one of Florida law enforcement's highest career honors is another powerful example of how volunteer law enforcement programs cultivate future leaders.
